With a clear concentrate on diligences within high value design the Swiss textile producer Création Baumann designated ‘Gecko’, an adhesive fabric sunblind which may easily be climbed immediately onto the window.
For the ‘Gecko: Think Forward’ competition Création Baumann welcome international designers and architects to get creative solvents which establish the versatility of this novel substance. This month the good works in the classes ‘functionality’, ‘creation’ and ‘ esthetic’s’ were presented.
With her plan ‘Gecko goes Kids’, which was presented in the class ‘creation’, the Zurich-based graphic architect Trix Barmettler took benefit of the reality that ‘Gecko’ can be spent many times, cause it departs no residues and misplaces none of its adhesive force. Together with the kids of the ‘Frechdachs’ kindergarten in Zurich she planned a flexible sun and optical blind which is combined of figurative components of contrast measurements. The Kopenhagen-based designers Mette Ramsgard Thomsen und Aurelie Mossé of CITA – centre for IT and Architecture introduced ‘Ice-fern’, an extremely poetic and sculptural sun blind, which streches across the windowpanes and walls. It was motivated by the natural phenomenon of the frost design and its artful cut and high-tech pattern applies it a three dimensional emergence and makes an interplay with the environing design. The Danes accepted the prize for the class esthetics. The award in the class ‘functionality’ went to Ahrens Grabenhorst Architekten from Hannover, Germany. For the interior decoration of the liberal Jewish community centre in Hanover they applied the white ‘Gecko Crypta’ in order to wrap the 4,20m windows of the synagogue’s upper floor. “We were searching a substance that would allow a sure mysticism to the space”, the designers extend. Gives thanks to the textiles construction the synagogues are filled with a gentle and distribute illuminate “a stringent design with good diplomacy”, the jury comments.
