In close cooperation the Dutch practices Studio Roelof Mulder and bureau Ira Koers actualized the modern interior decoration for the Library of the University of Amsterdam. The plan succeeded The Great Indoors Award 2009 in the class Serve & Facilitate.
“A library whose decor no more contains of books has been bent into a ‘house’ in which to study. The UvA’s big collection of books is saved in closed repositories, book storages and at varied open positions. A developing number of pupils, anyplace from 1500 to 5000, come the University Library each day in order to learn and peck up their digitally ordered books. Although projects for a recent construction in the future, the university wished to have a recent, temporary interior decoration for the 2500 m2 space that would consist study suites plus 235 extra workspaces, the canteen, the info center with its desk, the hallways, and an automatic loaning arena.”
“To provide pupils a best second house, we desired to accomplish two significant matters: a space like the white page of a book where the pupils themselves would act the important role in deciding how it’s filled in, and in sure arenas a domestic ambiance where the pupils could also learn informally.
For example, in among the learn rooms you’ll get a number of kitchen tables where you are able to act in groups below the lamp, a chesterfield sofa for reading a newspaper, varied seating arenas for a short break and especial phone arenas in the hallways among the silent learn rooms. The columns in the canteen are changed into lighted trees with low force electric light.”
