Kengo Kuma Associates completed this renovation of the Hoshakuji Station north of Tokyo. Parts of the station are constructed from re used Oya rock which was left over from an old storage warehouse that survived in this space.
The beginning point was to open the east exit of Hoshakuji Station. The architect purposed at relating the west and east sides of the station, which had been parted by the railroad. It finally meant the link between the west and the east of the town of Takanezawa, and between the place and Chokkura shopping centre & Shelters. The aperture begins at its ‘neighbor’, Chokkura shopping center. They first selected to keep up the previous storage warehouse of Oya stone that had existed in the space. Then we took advantage of centers in Oya stone, and applied them in the fresh constructive system, in which steel border and Oya stone are concerted diagonally, and added the scheme to the warehouse. Adopting the project of this ‘neighbor’, we extended this diagonal skin to the additional ‘center’ or ‘aperture’, which is the station. By such extension and joining, we attempted to join not only the station’s west exit and east exit, but also the station and its location.
In order to come down the weight, we used lean made plywood for body structure, besides Oya stone. By using wood, I needed to renovate the humane and warm aura once any place construction used to accept. The affect of this place construction would be conducted further to the landscape of paddy fields and wooden houses in the town of Takanezawa.
